122: The Embodied Logos That Pitched His Tent (John 1:14)

May 28, 2020

In John 1:14, God's personified Logos becomes flesh and "pitched his tent" in a manner that suggests a tabernacle and temple theme. This episode explores the imagery of the Logos "pitching his tent" within Jewish wisdom traditions. We discuss how the man Jesus functions as the new temple presence within the Fourth Gospel, drawing people unto himself while teaching within the physical temple. Lastly, we explore the relevance of the temple's glory in its close link with God's wisdom.

121: The Origins of the Word Becoming Flesh (John 1:14)

121: The Origins of the Word Becoming Flesh (John 1:14)

May 21, 2020

John 1:14 indicates that the Word--God's personified speech--becomes flesh as the human being Jesus. This episode shows how the embodiment of God's personified attributes was depicted in previous portrayals of Lady Wisdom, specifically in Proverbs, Sirach, and Philo. The Prologue, which has been deeply influenced by Jewish wisdom speculation, must be read in light of this important evidence.

May 14, 2020

The Prologue of John portrays the Logos coming to the world and interacting with its people. Many refused to receive the Logos, but some believed and became children of God. This episode explores how the Logos is to be understood as coming to the world in the ministry of Jesus, who summons the world to believe.

119: John the Baptist and the Logos that Enlightens

May 7, 2020

The Prologue of the Fourth Gospel depicts the Logos in terms of life and light for human beings. These terms become symbolic of noteworthy narrative points that are picked up later in the Fourth Gospel. The Prologue also introduces John the Baptist and depicts him as one who testifies about the light of the world (Jesus) who summons humanity unto belief.
